First off I must say that last night was absolutely incredible. This was our second meetup at Boss Crokers down in Wantagh last night and it couldn’t have gone any better. I usually like to get to these events pretty early so I arrived at 7:30 p.m, a half hour before the game, and the place was already packed with Islanders jerseys. I had spoken with the owner of the bar and he said we would not be able to get the sound on for the Islanders game because of the NFL playoffs. However, so many of you showed up that not only did we get the sound on, but every TV in the bar was showing hockey minus two TVs!

The bar was so packed it was hard to move around and talk with everyone, but we met some incredible people and we even had a few special guests stop by. Mike Carver (@CarverHighCBS) of IslesSeatPodcast dropped in to say hello and he even went live post game from Boss Crokers with Devin of @yesmenoutfitters. If you missed it, check it out here: After this interview, a random man who happened to be at the bar told Devin, “I’ve never watched hockey and have never been more in to a sport than tonight. I’m now a proud Islander fan.” Another special guest in attendance last night was Sean Cuthbert, producer and co-host of Hockey Night in NY. Thanks for stopping by!

The night started off just like our last meetup against the Red Wings. The Islanders went down 2-0 and had to try to claw their way back into the game. However, in the second period, the Islanders finally got on the board as Matt Martin scored to pull the Islanders to within one and the bar erupted as seen here:

The second period ended with the Isles down 2-1 and so onto the third period the Islanders went with all the attendees from the last meetup reminiscing about how this was exactly like our last meetup against the Red Wings. A little under halfway through the third period with Devin watching in reverse through a bar mirror, Eberle scored to tie the game at 2! Thanks to Jaclyn, for capturing the moment here:

Just 11 second later with Devin still watching backwards through the mirror, pandemonium broke out at Boss Crokers as Boychuk put home the go ahead goal. People were jumping, screaming, and high fiving. Beers were being spilt and the bartenders were ringing the bell in celebration. Luckily our very own @yesmenoutfitters was there to capture the moment:

Devin, was told that he could no longer turn around and must watch the rest of the game backwards in the mirror. Shortly after, Anders Lee, would give the Isles their 4th goal of the night and first two goal lead. It wouldn’t be easy though as the Blues gave us all a little bit of a sweat by scoring a goal late to make it a one goal contest. However, our boys held on and the celebration continued down at Crokers:

It was a night full of drinking, hugging, high fiving, and happiness. The Islanders gave us a huge win and so many new friends were made. I tried to get around to as many groups as possible and talk to as many of you amazingly beautiful people as possible, but the bar was so packed I couldn’t get around to all of you. Special shout out to some new friends from last night: Wendy, Joe, Nicole, Amanda, Kayla, Chris, Brian, Leah, Lisa, other Chris (give em hell), Michelle, Oscar, Lauren, Sean, Mike and then all the people from last time Jaclyn, Tara, Peter, Steve, Matt, Joe (og), Will, and Devin. It was a night to remember and we can’t wait to do it again! Special thanks to Boss Crokers in Wantagh for being such great hosts as well.

Funny quirks from the night:

  1. Leah being outside for every goal
  2. Fireball shots being ordered before, during, or after each goal
  3. Devin watching the entire third period from a mirror due to superstition

See you at the next one,

-Bryan @IslesMeetups
